Certificate in Teaching and Learning (CTL) at GUB: Steps toward Quality & Excellence (1st Phase, 30th Batch)

The Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) at Green University of Bangladesh (GUB) has officially concluded the 1st Phase of its flagship training program, the Certificate in Teaching and Learning (CTL) for the 30th Batch. Held at Room 302 in the Administrative Building under the theme "Steps toward Quality & Excellence," the two-day intensive workshop brought together newly appointed faculty members from across all academic departments to support their transition into high-quality, student-centered higher education.

The opening day focused on institutional vision, pedagogical theories, and curriculum frameworks. The program was inaugurated by Dr. Jagannath Biswas, Director of CETL, who emphasized the importance of continuous professional development and continuous quality improvement in teaching. Following the opening remarks, Dr. Mohammad Shariful Alam, Director of Student Affairs at Green University of Bangladesh, took the stage to share his rich academic experience and insightful perspectives with the new educators. ASM Kamrul Islam, Lecturer and Coordinator at CETL, then shared introductory remarks and facilitated an engaging ice-breaking session to foster community and collaboration among the cohort.

To integrate new academics into the institution, Prof. Dr. Khawza Iftekhar Uddin Ahmed, Honorable Pro Vice-Chancellor, led a socialization session that introduced participants to GUB's core values and academic culture. This was followed by an institutional orientation delivered by Captain (Navy) Shaikh Mohammad Salahuddin, (TAS), NGP, psc (retd), Honorable Registrar, detailing the university’s governance and operational structure. In the afternoon, Prof. Dr. M. Shahidullah, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, delivered a keynote on recent developments in pedagogy and active learning strategies. Day 1 concluded with a technical workshop on Outcome-Based Education (OBE) curriculum design, led by Dr. Mohammed Nazmus Shakib, Additional Director of IQAC.

The second day shifted focus toward professional standards, campus technology, practical classroom management, and service quality. Prof. Dr. S.M. Hassan Talukder, Dean of the Faculty of Law, opened the morning with a discussion on the professional code of conduct and academic ethics required of modern university educators. Following this, ASM Kamrul Islam, Lecturer and Coordinator at CETL, conducted an interactive session combining essential classroom management techniques with practical tools for implementing blended learning approaches. Moving into the afternoon, Esmot Ara Choity, Lecturer at CETL, facilitated a hands-on technical walkthrough of GUB’s campus management software and e-learning IT infrastructure. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Tareque Aziz, Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies, then presented the SERVQUAL framework, offering insights into maintaining high standards of academic service from a student-centric perspective. Following the reflection and evaluation assessments, the two-day training program was formally brought to a close by Dr. Jagannath Biswas, Director of CETL, who delivered the vote of thanks and concluding remarks.
